High school teacher Emma Lovett is finally recovering from her first year of teaching when she discovers another dead body. As if that wasn’t bad enough, this time, someone has killed a student, Kisten Hollis.
Emma and her best friend, Leslie, are desperate to solve this murder. But suspects abound. The perpetrator could be a teacher, an administrator, a member of Kisten’s zealous church community, or even another student.
Emma must juggle her teaching responsibilities, her new romance with handsome Hunter Wells, and interest from a hunky second suitor, all while searching for evidence to bring a killer to justice before someone else dies.
Emma has survived her first year of teaching (and the fallout of finding a murderer!) and is starting the second year full of hope and plans. Some of the plans involve Hunter, and finding out why they seem to be dancing around each other (does he no longer want to be going out with her?), but a lot of this is derailed when graffiti is sprayed in the new gym complex, bullying letters are being sent to the cheerleaders (and some of the staff) and even more derailed when one of the Cheerleading team is found dead in the changing rooms.
Emma and Leslie dust off their virtual deerstalkers, combine sleuthing duties with Edward and Hunter again (and find out that Leslie isn't quite as well as she would like when she is poisoned by the punch at a party!) and in Emma's case try to avoid the rather nice new medical examiner!
Who would want to kill Kisten? Why don't the three new member's of staff seem to want to join in? and what is Emma going to do about her love life! (oh and can they track down the graffiti artist and the murderer as well), all in a teacher's job.
An Interview with a Character
What is your full name?
Leslie Genevieve Parker
What is your Profession?
High School English Teacher (This year, one of my new classes was SCIENCE
FICTION! Coolest days ever—talking about ideas Ray Bradbury put into stories that are all HAPPENING
now in our everyday lives. Well, excepting the mass book burnings, thank goodness. I also have a second
and third profession, I suppose—that of crusader against PDAs (Public Displays of Affection) in school
hallways, and educator of anyone who’ll listen about the joys and genius of William Shakespeare.
Indeed, “I count myself in nothing else so happy/As in a soul remembering my good friends!” I consider
William a good friend . . . (that’s from Richard II, by the way. I don’t think I’d be Richard’s good
friend!)
Oh, and I’ve now assisted my good friend Emma three times in catching a murderer. Neither of us want
that to be our profession.
What is your current favourite book or movie?
I am currently in the middle of my second Fredrik
Backman book—called My Grandmother Asked Me to Tell You She’s Sorry. The first one: A Man Called
Ove—is so wonderful, and now this one is turning out to be as well. I think he is topping my list! His
characters are oh-so-flawed but you can’t help but love them. Kind of like me . “If sack and sugar be a
fault, God help the Wicked!” Henry IV
What is your go to comfort book or movie?
Stephen King is another one of those geniuses I alluded to
earlier. I gravitate toward The Green Mile when I’m feeling saucy and paranormal, or The Shawshank
Redemption when I’m remembering the joy of karma. Both of those for that reason, I guess.
If someone was to play you in a movie who would it be? OR what would be the character you would
want to be in a book?
It’d have to be someone evil in a book—the villains are much more fun. Maybe
the Red Queen? Muah ha hahahahaha . . . OFF WITH HER HEAD!
What is your ideal evening?
Gah! Because of recent events, my ideal pastime of eating copious amounts
of fried foods in the presence of whatever hottie is currently accompanying me, has been compromised.
Grr. I’ll have to embark upon a new search for my bliss. Any ideas? Let me know!
Thank you so much for being a stop on my tour, Knytt Wytch! Leslie really enjoyed the chat... Happy Monday! Yay, Books! 🤗📚 Kelley Kaye
