An Interview With A Character
Heather Weidner:
What is your full name? My name is Darby, and I am a brown and white Jack Russell Terrier who lives with my humans in their new house in Chesterfield County, Virginia.
What is your Profession? I am a stay-at-home dog. My job is to be there for my humans and to keep watch on the house. I protect them from joggers, kids on bikes, and squirrels.
What is your current favourite book or movie? I love snuggling with my humans when they read or watch movies. I’m partial to dog stories.
What is your go to comfort book or movie? I’m flexible. As long as there is snuggling and snacks, I love reading and movie watching time. I like the reruns of “Wishbone.” He’s a handsome JRT.
If someone was to play you in a movie who would it be? OR what would be the character you would want to be in a book? I would love to be in the reboot of “Wishbone.” I’m an excellent detective. I helped my human find things left in our new house by the previous owner. And I also helped solve the mystery, if I do say so myself.
What is your ideal evening? After a big dinner of kibble and chicken or tuna, I like to stretch out on the couch with my humans. I like snuggles and warm blankets. I also like snacks. Just about anything will do, but my favorites are cheese and popcorn.
Jayne Ormerod:
What is your full name? Martha Elizabeth Gordon, but I go by Meg. I’m featured in Jayne Ormerod’s cozy mystery “It’s a Dog Gone Shame!” in To Fetch a Thief, Four Fun “Tails” of Theft and Murder . . .
What is your Profession? I am the publisher behind six glossy neighborhood magazines that focus on the people, the pets, and the homes that make each area unique. That allows me to mostly stay at home, and offers flexible hours so I can track down thieves and killers.
What is your current favourite book or movie? The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Society by Mary Ann Shaffer. I saw the movie before I read the book. The book is better, in my opinion.
What is your go to comfort book or movie? “A Christmas Story.” I watch it at least a dozen times every holiday season, and might sneak it in once or twice during the summer months.
If someone was to play you in a movie who would it be? OR what would be the character you would want to be in a book? I would be flattered if Kate Hudson played me in the movie.
What is your ideal evening? Snuggled up on the couch with my dog Cannoli, eating Milano cookies and binging The Great British Bake Off:
Rosemary Shomaker:
What is your full name? I’m Adam Moreland, the main character in Rosemary Shomaker’s “This is Not a Dog Park” novella in To Fetch a Thief.
What is your Profession? I’ve got a degree in Economics and have a job in the state’s Economic Development Authority. I thought my degree and the position were a match made in heaven, but I was wrong, mainly because Larry Albert is a donkey of a boss.
What is your current favorite book or movie? I’m a baseball fan, so Bull Durham, The Rookie, and Field of Dreams feature as favorite movies, but Moneyball, by far is my favorite, given my baseball and economics interests.
What is your go to comfort book or movie? Shall I really admit this? For comfort, I fire up episodes of The Great British Baking Show. Food is great comfort. Hmm. Eighty-three year old British food writer Mary Berry reminds me of my mother but nicer. That’s odd. My mom’s people were Scots from Clan Douglass.
If someone was to play you in a movie who would it be? OR what would be the character you would want to be in a book? As a book character, I’d like to be Paul Atreides in Frank Herbert’s Dune books. Wow. He rises from the young son of a duke and a Bene Gesserit leader to toss in his lot with the Fremen the planet Arrakis (Dune) which is the only known source of a the “spice” drug. Later a religion is founded in his name. It’s a riveting sci-fi epic tale. Don’t ask me details. I need to reread the series! Suffice it to say that I relate to Paul because of the internal struggles he faces, his wavering confidence, and his tormented indecision.
What is your ideal evening? Here’s my ideal evening: playing catch with my dog, meeting a friend to play tennis, grabbing a quick curry takeout meal, and eating it at home in the company of my dog and my tennis buddy. Who’s with me in this? Got any curry restaurants to recommend?
Teresa Inge:
What is your full name? Teresa Inge
What is your Profession? Mystery writer and administrative professional.
What is your current favorite book or movie? I am currently reading Murder Most Fermented by Christine E. Blum. It’s a great wine mystery!
What is your go to comfort book or movie? I love Bringing up Baby. A 1938 screwball comedy with Katharine Hepburn and Cary Grant. It’s my favorite movie of all time.
If someone was to play you in a movie who would it be? OR what would be the character you would want to be in a book? I would want to be a female spy. I always play it in safe in life so this would be thrilling!
What is your ideal evening? Writing with a glass of wine and spending time with my husband and dogs Luke and Lena by our side.
