Life at the house on Winter Street is abuzz with preparations for Aunt Ibby's 45th high school reunion, and Lee Barrett is happy to pitch in, tracking down addresses and licking envelopes. But as a field reporter for Salem's WICH-TV, her priority is to be on top of the town's latest news before for anyone else.
When the local police dredge up a vintage sports car containing human remains, Lee is thrilled to be the first reporter on the scene. Once she learns the car is connected to the cold case her boyfriend Pete happens to be investigating, her powers of investigation are quickly alerted. But it's her Aunt Libby's emotional reaction to Lee's TV report that puts her on the case. With the help of O'Ryan, her psychic feline sidekick, she'll have to unravel a tangled past of secrets and promises to stop a killer from making history again . . .
An Interview With A Character
What is your full name?
Isabel Emily Russell, but friends call me “Ibby.”
What is your profession?
I’m a sixty-something “semi-retired” research librarian at the Salem (MA) Main Library. I still put in a lot of hours there and enjoy it.
What is your current favorite book or movie?
Just now I’m reading Leaving Lucy Pear by Anna Solomon. It’s extremely well written. I’m enjoying it particularly because the action takes place in nearby Gloucester, MA., a city I know well. Favorite movie ever is An Affair to Remember. Current favorite I think is the new Mary Poppins movie. I found it every bit as delightful as the first one—just in a different way.
What is your favorite go-to comfort book or movie?
Easy. It’s my “desert Island” book too. The Chronicles of Narnia.by Lewis.
If someone was to play you in a movie who would it be?
I’d love it if Jamie Lee Curtis would play me! Of course she’d have to use a red rinse on her hair.
What is your ideal evening?
My gentleman friend, Hubert Pennington (he’s the Executive Director of the Tabitha Trumbull Institute of the Arts,) and I would go to an early dinner at one of Salem’s finer restaurants, then attend a musical at a one of our nearby theaters. I would be dressed to the nines, hair and nails done perfectly. (Actually, I get to do this fairly often. Hubert is a wonderful date).
