Waking up with no recollection of the night before sucks. What's worse? Realizing the guy next to you is dead. Apparently murdered. Yikes!
My bakery buddies Callie and Anna are ready to jump into the investigation. I can't let them. They'll learn the secrets I've been keeping. They are not going to be happy when they discover I've been sticking my nose where it doesn't belong. Especially since I've now got a big bulls-eye on my back.
No one can stop Callie and Anna when their minds are made up, though. Not only do I end up smack dab in the middle of a murder investigation, but a friend has decided he's going to keep me safe. What I want is apparently immaterial. We'll see about that.
Come join us at Callie's Cakes, where murder investigations are on the menu. You are most welcome, but you may need to serve yourself as our barista Kristie is busy trying to save the world.
This is a cozy mystery, but one that doesn't shy away from the harsher realities of life. In this one our resident social worker in training come youth centre leader come barista has woken up feeling woozy and with no recollection of how she got home from the bar the previous night, if that isn't bad enough she has woken up naked ... with a naked man next to her, or should we say a naked corpse! Kristie starts to panic and phones Callie and Anna who promptly turn up with their boyfriends in tow, luckily Ben and Logan are both cops and before you can say caramel latter Kristie is bundled up and on the way to the hospital with Logan and Anna to get checkout out. At the hospital they discover that she was given Rohypnol but luckily, or maybe oddly she wasn't raped, it is at this point that she has to admit to Callie and Anna that she has been looking into campus rapes and so Callie and Anna INSTANTLY offer to help. When she joins a private forum for rape victims she ends up chatting with a girl called Alex, who shuts down if the conversation ever gets personal, then again outside a Frat party we discover why!
I will confess that I guessed the killer/rapist pretty much straight away but even with that this was a great book and a great addition to the series!
