In the small village of Kilbane, County Cork, Ireland, Naomi’s Bistro has always been a warm and welcoming spot to visit with neighbors, enjoy some brown bread and tea, and get the local gossip. Nowadays twenty-two-year-old Siobhán O’Sullivan runs the family bistro named for her mother, along with her five siblings, after the death of their parents in a car crash almost a year ago.
It’s been a rough year for the O’Sullivans, but it’s about to get rougher. One morning, as they’re opening the bistro, they discover a man seated at a table, dressed in a suit as if for his own funeral, a pair of hot pink barber scissors protruding from his chest.
With the local garda suspecting the O’Sullivans, and their business in danger of being shunned—murder tends to spoil the appetite—it’s up to feisty redheaded Siobhán to solve the crime and save her beloved brood.
What a cracking start to a series! Siobhán has a lot on her plate, she should be heading off to Trinity College, Dublin - but almost a year ago both her parents were killed by a drink driver, leaving Siobhán to pay for the joint funerals out of her college savings and, more importantly, taking on the Guardianship of her underage siblings. That would be bad enough but the brother of the man who killed her parents (and was jailed for it) is back in town claiming he has evidence that will free his brother and he wants Siobhán to pay 10k Euros for the information!
When the next day he is found dead, well and truly dead in the family bistro and Siobhán's brother James is missing (seems he has broken his pledge not to drink and has gone on a total bender!) the Garda are looking at James as the killer, especially when blood on his clothes matches the victims, now with James arrested Siobhán needs to hold the rest of the siblings together, keep a roof over their heads and find out whodunnit!
