At Sugar & Spice Community Cookbooks, the friends and business partners have secured a tasty new commission: producing a cookbook for the Arbor family. The Arbors have made their fortune in quiches, and Sugar and Spice have been invited to a weekend gathering where all the siblings, along with crusty matriarch Marta, will be in attendance. But it’s soon clear that this trip will come with a hefty slice of drama.
Theo, the only grandson, arrives with his flaky fiancée, Collette, who quickly stirs up trouble . . . and is found dead the next day. As the investigation unfolds, secrets—and recipes—are shared, and Sugar and Spice realize just how messy and murderous the situation may be. As another family member falls ill, can they solve the case without getting egg on their faces . . .and a target on their backs?
Sugar and Spice are anticipating a fairly relaxing weekend at the Arbor B&B, collating family recipes and jotting down food memories for their latest commission, when they sit down for the meal on the Friday evening they see two empty seats, which seems odd, but soon after they had started eating the youngest member of the Arbor family, Theo (the grandson) and his new fiancee, Collette, arrive. Pretty much the first thing Collette does is put her toy poodle ON the dining table which leads to mayhem! But even with this no one expects the outcome that arises the following morning when Sugar finds the poodle running loose, and then she trips over Collette, literally!
Now things are getting hotter than a commercial kitchen and the two friends need to look out for each other and their business before someone decides they are surplus to requirements!
An Interview With A Character
What is your full name?
Rosetta Sugarbaker Calloway, but everyone calls me Sugar. No one, not even my mama, calls me Rosetta.
What is your Profession?
I used to be a magazine editor but now I’m co-owner of a community cookbook publishing business – Sugar & Spice Cookbooks.
What is your current favourite book or movie?
My current favorite movie is Knives Out. I’ve watched it three times, even though I know how it turns out. Such great fun.
What is your go to comfort book or movie?
My go to comfort book is any mystery though I’m partial historical mysteries. My comfort movie would be more likely a television series and right now I’m binging Father Brown.
If someone was to play you in a movie who would it be? OR what would be the character you would want to be in a book?
I’ve been told I look like Carice Van Houten but I don’t think Game of Thrones is quite my style. If I were to play a character in a book, that’s easy. I’d definitely want to be Phryne Fisher in the Miss Fisher’s Murder Mysteries books by Kerry Greenwood.
What is your ideal evening?
For me an ideal evening is a casual dinner with friends. Relaxed, good food, great company and no rush.
