Ballerina Leah Siderova knows the career of a professional dancer is short. But rarely is it as brief as that of her rival, Arianna Bonneville, whose rise to stardom ends when she is stabbed in the back.
New York City police detective Jonah Sobol fixes upon Leah as the prime suspect. After all, she was the one who found the body, she had the most to gain from Arianna’s death, and it was her name Arianna whispered, just before she died.
Leah is desperate to clear her name, and she begins her own investigation, collaborating with her best friend and her ballet coach. As the three dancers sort through backstage intrigues, attempted blackmail, and a tangle of romantic liaisons, the noose around Leah’s neck grows tighter.
Ballet, with its merciless discipline, is all Leah has ever known. Is that enough to keep her one step ahead of the police—and the killer?
An Interview With A Character
What is your full name?
My name is Leah Siderova. It used to be Leah Feldbaum, but my mother changed it after she divorced my father. I’m a dancer, and she thought Siderova, which is her maiden name, would look better on a Playbill. It’s not uncommon for dancers to change their names, and I’m happy with mine.
What is your Profession?
I’m a professional ballet dancer with American Ballet Company. It’s the only life I’ve ever known. It’s the only life I’ve ever wanted.
What is your current favourite book or movie?
I love mysteries. Right now, I’m reading the last book in Judith Flanders’ series, A Howl of Wolves. It’s funny and smart. As for movies, my all-time favorite is Casablanca. Lots of romance and intrigue.
What is your go to comfort book or movie?
Pride and Prejudice never gets old for me. And my comfort movie is the 1940 version of that book, with Greer Garson and Sir Laurence Olivier. Although the movie version doesn’t precisely follow the book, it gets the mood exactly right, and it’s hilariously funny.
If someone was to play you in a movie who would it be? OR what would be the character you would want to be in a book?
I’d like Rachel Brosnahan to play me. I love her role in The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel. She’s skinny, and she’s got a great wardrobe!
What is your ideal evening?
My idea evening is performing to an adoring audience. After the last curtain call, I’d want a champagne dinner and two desserts. In a perfect world, I wouldn’t have to worry about the calories.
